Breast Augmentation Implant in Dallas, TX
(retain style)

Breast augmentation, commonly referred to as a “boob job,” is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures in the world and has been since the 1960s. Bombshells of the time like Marilyn Monroe, Sofia Loren and Jane Mansfield inspired standards of beauty and set the trend for curvaceous buxom figures. Did you know the world’s first breast augmentation using silicone implants was performed in Texas? Although feminine beauty ideals vary from culture to culture and even from state to state, the demand for breast implants has remained unyielding for decades. When properly selected and carefully planned for, breast implants can quickly and effectively boost your bust to give you a long lasting luscious result.

The key to success is selecting the ideal implant for your individual anatomy while planning for the future. Your implant choice should provide the best possible immediate result without over burdening your tissues and compromising your future appearance. The wrong implant can sit awkwardly on your chest, accelerate skin stretch, and cause premature thinning of the overlying breast tissue. In other words, advance aging. Equally important as appropriate implant selection is the understanding of your body’s limitations and what can safely be achieved with an implant alone. Frequently, breast fat grafting is performed in conjunction with implant placement to arrive at the desired result.

Meticulous operative technique can dramatically decrease (but not eliminate) your risk of long-term complications such as capsular contracture or implant malposition. Dr Deniz Basci completed specialized aesthetic surgery fellowship training and has expertise in cosmetic breast aesthetics. She performs an exclusive rapid recovery breast augmentation procedure that is geared toward getting patients back to their normal routine and enjoying their enhanced figure within 24 hours. In short, while breast augmentation can be a straightforward procedure with remarkably rapid recovery and outstanding outcomes, without proper preparation, judgment or technique it can just as easily morph into a misadventure.

What constitutes a breast augmentation?

In the most basic terms, breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure to boost your bust and enhance the overall appearance of your breasts using silicone or saline implants. It’s not just about size! A breast implant has the ability to define curves, accent peaks and highlight valleys, thus improving your overall breast shape and projection. The implant is inserted under the breast tissue within a custom defined pocket to keep it in stable position until healing is complete. Most breast implants have a lifespan of 10-15 years, before they are removed or exchanged for various reasons including size swap, capsular contracture or breast lift.

The sheer number and variety of breast implants available can make the task of choosing one seem overwhelming. During your consultation Dr. Basci will ask about your goals, assess your tissues and then suggest a range of implants that best suit your anatomy. She uses 3D medical photographic technology to show you how various sized implants will appear on your body. 3D imaging has been proven to be the most accurate estimation available of ultimate post-op breast appearance. You will be able to access your individual 3D images from home for reference as you make your decision.

Beauty can mean different things to each person. Ultimately, desired breast appearance is an exceedingly intimate and personal decision that can only be made by the patient herself. Dr. Basci will guide you through the process and help you choose the best implants for your individual body. The final decision is yours and should match your own beauty standards and no one else’s.

Basci’s Breast Implant Basics

When it comes to breast implants, there are wrong answers but no single right answer. During your consultation, Dr. Deniz Basci who has expertise in cosmetic breast surgery will have an in depth discussion with you about breast implant options. Dr. Basci uses the latest generation of optimally filled smooth round silicone implants and saline implants depending on your preference and your unique anatomy.

Breast implants come in a wide range of heights, widths, and projections for each absolute volume. Your best fit is decidedly more intricate than just a number of cc’s. Much like some women can fit into a 34D or 36C bra interchangeably, there’s more than one breast implant that can achieve a similar look in your body. Anticipating the subtle differences is what separates a finesse result from the rest.

Dr. Basci will show you the latest in breast implant technology and offer you a custom tailored range of implants that all suit your individual anatomy. Before you can make an educated decision you need to master Basci’s breast implant basics

There are two broad categories of breast implants; silicone and saline. All FDA approved breast implants available in the U.S. have a silicone elastomer shell. The shell can either be filled with saline or medical grade silicone gel. There are advantages and disadvantages to both categories of implants.

Silicone Breast Implant

Silicone Breast implants have a silicone elastomer shell filled with a softer silicone gel that feels very much like natural breast tissue. The silicone gel that fills the shell is a cohesive material, meaning the particles are held together and do not lose their shape when cut through, much like a gummy bear candy that retains is shape when sliced in half. The cohesive gel will not leak or migrate in the unlikely event that the implant shell becomes perforated. The newest generation of optimally filled cohesive silicone breast implants has better shape retention and is less likely to fold or collapse with dynamic movements of every day life.

Silicone breast implants are FDA approved for breast augmentation in women older than 22 and for any age when used for breast reconstruction. They have been shown to result in excellent aesthetic outcomes and are associated with a high degree of patient satisfaction.

Saline Breast Implant

Saline breast implants have a silicone elastomer shell and are filled with saline during surgery, after the empty shell is placed into the breast pocket. This allows the surgeon to fill a customized amount of fluid and offers more flexibility in final implant volume. Because they are inserted while empty, saline implants require slightly smaller surgical incisions than those used to insert silicone implants. Saline implants are also less expensive than silicone implants. However, much like an over filled water balloon, a saline implant can show rippling along the sides that may be visible or even palpable on the breast. In the unlikely event that the implant shell is perforated, the salt water will leak out and be reabsorbed immediately leaving you flat on one side. In the event of implant deflation, schedule an appointment to see Dr. Basci as soon as possible.

Saline breast implants can be used to achieve beautiful natural results. They are the only FDA approved breast implants for women under the age of 22 undergoing breast augmentation.

Breast Augmentation Techniques:

Dr. Deniz Basci believes that her rapid recovery breast augmentation technique allows patients to have the quickest and most comfortable recovery possible. This specially designed approach creates the least amount of tissue trauma coupled with meticulous control of bleeding and comprehensive anti-bacterial irrigation to minimize bruising, swelling and the risk of capsular contracture. You should be able to enjoy your new figure the evening of your surgery. Dr. Basci encourages you go out to celebrate the new you that very night.

The rapid recovery breast augmentation has a number of options for incision and implant placement. A short incision is made to access the breast tissue and create a custom sized pocket for your selected implant, usually under the pectoralis major muscle. Choice of implant position either under or over the muscle is determined by your goals, your anatomy and your tissue quality. Most often implant position under the muscle is preferred for a more natural result, with increased implant coverage and a lower risk of capsular contracture.

During your operation, Dr. Basci takes particular care to cause the least amount of tissue trauma and delicately control any bleeding as she creates the precise pocket. Prior to placing the implant, the pocket is copiously irrigated with a specific antibiotic solution to decrease your chance of capsular contracture. The implant is delivered into the pocket using a no touch technique to ensure maximal sterility. Finally the incisions are closed using careful tension free suturing techniques to help incisions heal in the best way your body produces scar.

Once your incisions are healed Dr. Basci recommends an effective incisional care routine with silicone scar therapies to leave you with the best possible incision quality. Total operative time is usually under 40 minutes with most patients enjoying their result out on the town the same night..

Choice of Incision

There can be different positions for the incision in breast augmentation surgery, each with its own pros and cons. Dr. Basci will suggest the most appropriate incision placement for your individual procedure. If more than one incision site is an option for your anatomy, then the choice is yours!

Breast Fold (Inframammary Fold or IMF Incision)

A 3-5cm incision is hidden in the natural crease under your breast. The IMF approach is a suitable choice for most women. Exceptions include breasts without a well-defined inframammary fold or cases in which the breast fold is being moved lower for symmetry or improved shape. The vast majority of the time, IMF incisions heal nearly imperceptibly and are well hidden in a natural anatomic crease, which helps camouflage the appearance of the scar.

Around the Nipple Complex (Periareolar Incision)

An incision is made along the lower border of the areola. The periareolar incision is an excellent option for breasts with a smooth areolar border and a distinct transition in color from areolar to breast skin. In these patients the residual scar appears to be a natural anatomic border.

The periareolar approach is sometimes beneficial in breasts with a constricted lower pole or tubular breast deformity. Of note, the periareolar approach may carry a higher risk of capsular contracture and infection because dissection is performed through the breast ducts and gland tissue. It is usually not feasible in breasts with smaller areolar complexes because the incision is not large enough for the implant to pass through.

Under Arm (Transaxillary Incision)

A 3-5cm incision is made in the armpit, or axilla. An endoscopic camera is used to guide dissection of the implant pocket and the breast implant is delivered through the underarm incision. This technique is best for patients without a well-defined inframammary breast fold or individuals prone to hypertrophic scarring.

The transaxillary approach may carry a higher risk of capsular contracture and infection because dissection is performed through the axillary sweat glands and hair bearing tissue. Placing a breast implant through the armpit may also have a higher incidence of implant malposition laterally.

Preparing for Surgery

Prior to any surgery Dr Basci will review your general health history, surgical history and current medications. You will need to stop taking any medications or supplements that increase the risk of bleeding 2 weeks before surgery and remain off of them for 2 weeks following surgery. Make sure to check with your primary prescribing physician before stopping any medications.

It is important to prime your body with a healthy balanced diet in the months leading up to surgery. Make sure you have the appropriate protein intake. Protein is vital for healing.

Recovery from Breast Augmentation Surgery

Just as every individual procedure is distinct, so is everyone’s recovery experience. The rapid recovery breast augmentation procedure has one of the most streamlined and consistent immediate post-operative progressions. Dr. Deniz Basci aims to make every patient’s recovery as quick and effortless as possible, causing the least amount of disruption to your personal life. If it can be relatively painless for some then why not strive for all?

The rapid recovery breast augmentation technique has a total operative time under one hour and a typical 1-2 hour stay in the post-operative care unit until you are safe to return home. Dr. Basci recommends taking a short nap when you get home, followed by a warm cleansing shower, leaving your waterproof surgical dressing in place. That evening you should go out to dinner and toast the new you! Resuming regular activities and enjoying your result is an essential part of the healing process.

You should expect mild bruising and swelling with moderate soreness in your chest. Some patients compare the feeling to what you’d experience after and intense pec muscle work out. You may notice increased sensitivity of your breast with arm movements in the days immediately following the procedure. Dr. Basci will instruct you on any restrictions or actions you should avoid and when to begin your implant exercises. In some cases numbness and tingling or temporary changes in nipple sensation may occur, but typically resolve within days to weeks.

You may shower the same day as your surgery, leaving your waterproof surgical dressing in tact until your 1 week post-operative visit. Avoid sleeping on your stomach and applying direct pressure to your breasts during the first few weeks after surgery. This is to avoid inadvertently causing pain or disrupting your surgical site before it has healed. You may wear a soft bra without underwire for gentle support and will be provided with a surgical bra at the time of your procedure.

Any non-dissolving sutures will be removed in the office at your first a post-operative visit. You will need to apply a thin layer of ointment to your incisions once a day until they are fully healed and protect the incisions from sun exposure. Talk to Dr. Basci about when it is safe to begin silicone scar treatment.

It takes 3-4 months for the implants to settle into their ultimate position. You may be instructed to wear a compressive strap in some cases to help maneuver you implant into the desired final position. Dr. Basci will follow your recovery closely and offer you individual post operative instructions.

You may begin light aerobic exercise the 2 weeks after your procedure. Dr. Basci recommends you avoid intense exercise, heavy lifting, yoga and pilates for 2-4 weeks after your breast augmentation. Most patients resume full activities 6 weeks after surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

- What does rapid recovery breast augmentation mean? How is it different than other “boob jobs”?

Dr. Basci has expertise is cosmetic breast surgery and she uses a special surgical technique called rapid recovery breast augmentation to give her patients the quickest and most comfortable recovery possible with the least disruption to their personal life. Conventional breast augmentation procedures usually require 5-7 days for recovery, including time off work, and use of narcotic pain medications. Dr. Basci’s rapid recovery patients generally resume their normal activities with 24 hours after surgery and use over the counter pain medications for discomfort.

After surgery, patients are given specific instructions to perform breast implant exercise several times a day, including arm stretches to facilitate the healing process. Most rapid recovery augmentation patients are able to toast their new figure the evening of surgery in the days following. Dr. Basci is dedicated to getting you back to your normal life as soon as possible.

- How do I choose what size breast implant to use?
During your consultation, Dr. Basci will ask you about your goals for breast size and shape. She will ask to see pictures of looks that you like to make sure she clearly understands your desired results. Next she will examine your anatomy and tissue quality, taking a series of measurements of your breasts. Finally, 3D images of your body are taken and used to show you a range of suitable implants. Dr. Basci demonstrate with 3D VECTRA technology what each size implant will look like on your torso. You will have access to your individual 3D photos from home for reference as you decide. The ultimate decision for size of implant is yours! Whatever your choice, you can feel confident that Dr. Basci will ensure it is safe and appropriate for your specific anatomy.
- How many cc’s equal a cup size?

Bra cup sizes are a fairly unreliable measure of breast volume. That’s because there is no cup size consistency from brand to brand. One woman can easily fit into a so-called B, C or D cup depending on where she shops and what ctrap circumference she chooses. For that reason, it’s confusing and misleading to speak in terms of cup sizes. 3D imaging has been shown to be the most accurate estimate of post-operative breast appearance. In an effort to communicate clearly and set realistic expectations, Dr. Basci prefers to plan implant sizes based on your exact dimensions and breast measurements.

- I’d like to enhance my cleavage and bring my breasts closer together, what is the best implant for that?

Your natural breast sits atop your torso over your pectoralis major muscle. During a breast augmentation the implant is usually placed partially under this muscle to push forward the overlying breast and support the upper pole. The location of your chest muscles is predetermined by your individual anatomy and cannot be shifted. How close together your breasts are is limited by your anatomy. Having breast augmentation with implants alone will not move your breasts closer to the middle.

Sometimes, it is possible to overcome this limitation by performing breast fat grafting in conjunction with your augmentation. Fat grafting is a technique in which fat and stem cells are borrowed from another part of your body and transferred to your breast. Careful placement of the fat along the top and middle border of your breast may give the appearance your breasts are subtly closer together.

- What should I bring to my breast augmentation consultation?

During your office visit, Dr. Basci will begin by asking you about your goals for surgery and what you have in mind for an ideal outcome. It is helpful if you bring photos of figures whose breasts you like. Verbal descriptions can only provide a general gist of what size and shape you’re looking for. Dr. Basci wants to know what you are visualizing in your mind, so she can prepare your customized operative plan.

In addition to any photos you provide, Dr. Basci uses 3D medical photography to show you how different size breast implants will look on your actual body. 3D imaging has been shown to be the most accurate estimate of post-surgical appearance and allows you to look at your pictures from home will you make your decision.

If you would take the time to fill out your patient intake forms prior to your visit, this will facilitate the the most efficient use of your time during your appointment. Once you schedule you visit, instructions will be sent to you with how to access the intake forms.

- How do I monitor my implants after surgery?
Breast implants are medical devices regulated by the FDA. They are not considered lifelong medical devices. Most breast implants come with a 10 year warranty and are exchanged after 10-15 years for various reasons invlcuind size swap, capsular contracture, or need for breast lift. Currently, the FDA recommends women with silicone implants monitor their devices with a breast MRI 3 years after initial breast augmentation and every 2 years after that. During your consultation, Dr Basci will review the FDA recommendations with you and answer any questions you may have about common implant complications and what to expect.
- Does having breast implants mean I can’t have routine mammograms?
Both silicone and saline breast implants can obscure breast tissue in mammogram images, which are important screening tools for breast cancer. Still, studies show that in women with breast implants, there are mammography techniques taking alternate views and additional angles which allow women with breast implants to be equally effectively screened for breast cancer as women without implants.
- When can I buy new bras after my breast augmentation?
For the first 1-2 weeks following surgery, Dr. Basci recommends you wear a soft surgical or athletic bra without underwire. After surgery you will placed in a soft surgical bra that clasps in the front. Typically, Dr. Basci asks patients to wait 4-6 weeks before resuming under wire bras, depending on how the implants are settling into the desired position.
- When can I swim after breast augmentation?
Patients may shower the same day as surgery with their waterproof surgical dressinig in place but should avoid submerging under water in a bath tub, hot tub, jacuzzi, lake or pool for 4-6 weeks. There are a lot of harmful bacteria that your skin protects you from, but while your skin is healing, your protective barrier is compromised. It is important to prevent implant contact with any bacteria both during and after surgery to minimize your risk of infection or capsular contracture. You may enter the water up to your belly button after 3 weeks, and always protect your incisions with sunscreen to prevent darkening and scarring of your incision.
